Are you interested in exposing obstacles to climate action? Want to join an award-winning investigations outlet dedicated to holding the powerful to account? DeSmog is looking for a UK-based News Reporter to join our rapidly growing team.
The reporter will primarily be responsible for day-to-day coverage of stories related to DeSmog’s core mission of calling out climate science denial, corporate greenwash, and environmental misinformation. They will also work with DeSmog’s investigations team to help publish hard-hitting features and exposés.
DeSmog is a global environmental investigations outlet that has provided accurate, fact-based reporting on misinformation campaigns and climate activism worldwide for over 15 years. Our work has become a crucial resource for anyone with an interest in the undue influence of climate science denial, polluting companies, and the lobbying industry on policy and the public debate. We regularly work with mainstream media partners including the Guardian, Independent, and Channel 4. Our work has been used by MPs to challenge government decisions, and in the US Senate in Congressional hearings on climate change.
The News Reporter will be line-managed by DeSmog’s Special Projects and Investigations Editor, and report daily to DeSmog’s editorial team, including our Deputy Editor and Senior Reporter.
The following skills and experience are essential for this role:
- At least two years of reporting experience;
- A track record of hitting tight deadlines, with experience of breaking exclusive stories;
- Experience of reporting on climate and environmental issues;
- Demonstrable data analysis and investigative reporting skills;
- Qualifications in journalism, or a subject related to climate change or the environment;
- Great interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a small, dedicated, team;
- An enthusiasm for and commitment to DeSmog’s core values and mission.
