Back Us to Keep Reporting from the Frontline of the Climate Crisis

Weย are nearing the end of our first crowdfunding appealย and we are reaching out to you to ask for your support in the finalย stretch.

Hopefully you’ve seen our pleading letters, articles and social media posts over the last few weeks (don’t worry, it will soon be over). Weย are trying to raise ยฃ20,000 to support our ongoing investigations andย our reporting from the frontlines of environmental activism as the climate challenges we face appear more clearly than everย before.ย

Because ofย your fantastic support we are – at time of publishing – at 66% of our target with just 5 days toย go.ย

Will you help us get nearer our target so we canย continue?

Our work is divided into four overlapping areas ofย focus:

1. We expose covert networksย working to spread disinformation and propaganda about the realities of climateย breakdown.

2. We report from the frontlines of resistance to ecological breakdown.

3. We report on corporate abuse and wrongdoing andย fossil fuel propaganda.

4. We map and reveal the emerging transatlantic networks that will feast on post-Brexit deregulationย and the think-tanks that are coordinating theseย policies.

But the bulk of the money we are raising will go towards reporting local actions and protests in Britain in the comingย year.

DeSmogย UKย has reported from the frontlines of some of theย UKโ€™s most significant fossil fuelย resistances.

As our editor Mat Hope putย it:

โ€œIt has been an absolute privilege to have played a small part in telling so many important stories. Butย we need your helpย toย continue.ย We want to do more. So much more. But it all costs money.ย Each feature costs about ยฃ1,000 to produce. Thatโ€™s why weโ€™re trying toย crowdfund ยฃ20,000, so we can visit 20 environmental protestsย inย 2019.โ€

The UK press, partly because of cutbacks andย partly because its own business model is entreched in the system we have around us, fail to engage with the ecological catastrophe we can all now see beforeย us.

The ‘environment’ is treated as a fringe issue, or downplayed asย Nimbyism.ย

This is more important than ever as legitimate protest is being criminalised and put underย surveillance.ย

Now we turn toย you to help us continue our workย at this criticalย time.ย

We need you to help us challenge the powerful interests of the past that are clinging on to the polluting fuelsย driving climateย breakdown.

This is the moment when we need you to stand up and helpย out.

We need you to put your hand in your pocket and become a Supporter (ยฃ25), a Sponsor (ยฃ50), or a Championย (ยฃ100).

This is a critical time. We need your support right now.ย Donateย here.
