Seems we weren’t the only ones who found the Vancouver Province newspaper’s “look at the bright side of global warming” editorial on October 3rd more than a little immature.

The bright side of climate change?
What is your editorial board smoking?
I too dream of palm trees and endless summer. However, I’m not deluded into believing that global warming will deliver any such thing. Droughts, flooding, extreme weather events, extinctions, desertification and rising ocean levels are all likely. It’s long past the time for minimizing the state of our weather and environment, and I’m disappointed to see The Province continuing to do so. Your subscribers deserve better.

Bit early for jokes?

I loved your editorial “Let’s look at the bright side of climate change.” But don’t you think it’s a little bit early for April Fool’s?

A hot economy
Your editorial on the benefits of global warming doesn’t even scratch the surface. A longer Canadian growing season is nothing compared to the hyper-drive our economy can attain.

Imagine the booming forest industry as forest after forest falls victim to disease. We’ll put that lumber to good use rebuilding our flooded coastal and storm-ravaged cities.

More can be used for a huge wall along our southern border to keep out the starving billions frying to death in drought-ridden southern climes. The economic boom can finance the finest army to help with that.

Savvy entrepreneurs can offer submarine tours of Gastown and Chinatown. Unemployment will surely drop to zero. Bring on global warming. Keep on driving!
