Smith runs a blog called โ€œEcomythsโ€ that criticizes green energy projects and questions the existence of man-made climate change.

His name also appears on Senator James Inhofe’s list of โ€œprominent scientistsโ€ who are skeptical of the existence of man-made global warming.

Senator Inhofe, as an active climate change skeptic, has been a leading public figure in the fight to stop the federal government from accepting the claims of a scientific consensus on global warming.

Stance on Climate Change

According to a presentation by Smith (.ppt), โ€œThe global warming scare has little foundation in fact,โ€ and โ€œnot only is climate change natural, temperatures today are neither unprecedented nor abnormal.โ€ He also believes that โ€œthe science of climate change is very complex and beyond our present level of understanding.โ€8Dr. L. Graham Smith. โ€œThe Dynamics of Discourse: Ideology, Science and Public Policy in the Kyoto Debateโ€ (.ppt), Retrieved February 17, 2012, from the Smith’s profile at the University of Western Ontario.

Key Quotes

โ€œEnvironmentalism is no longer the ideology of reform, of rebellion, of revolution: it is fully co-opted as the dominant dogma of stasist conformity and control.โ€9โ€œis the damage already done?โ€ Ecomyths, October 29, 2011.

The Manhattan Declaration contends that โ€œ’global warming’ is not a global crisis,โ€ and that โ€œcurrent plans to restrict anthropogenic CO2 emissions are a dangerous misallocation of intellectual capital and resources that should be dedicated to solving humanityโ€™s real and serious problems.โ€

December 13, 2007

Smith was a signatory to a 2007 open letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon that denied man-made climate change. The letter states โ€œit is not possible to stop climate change, a natural phenomenon that has affected humanity throughout the ages.โ€11โ€œOpen Letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations,โ€ Science & Public Policy Institute, December 13, 2007.

April 2006

Smith signed a 2006 open letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper that denied man-made climate change and urged governments to stall progress on climate policy.
