In anticipation of the Detroit Big 3 presentations to Congress on CAFE standards, the CEO of General Motors had this to say:

It looks like within the climate that’s being experienced now, it’s very likely there will be increases in CAFE,” Rick Wagoner, General Motors Corp. chairman and chief executive, said Tuesday in Wilmington, Del. “I think our concern is, let’s make sure that we also fix the real problems while we’re doing that.”

Of course, we know the climate Wagoner is talking about is not the global climate he and his company should be worried about. But it’s a start, kind of. This comment is definitely not one of GM‘s talking points, as they continue to spend millions of dollars convincing us that SUV‘s and Hummers are necessary for a safe and happy life.
